Chiropractic treatment

If you have been dealing with back pain or bodily aches of any kind, you might want to consider getting chiropractic treatment. This treatment involves non-invasive therapy where the chiropractor uses their hands to manually relieve neuromusculoskeletal disorders, including back and arthritis pain.

While Health Centre of Milton mostly treats back pain, we have acupuncture and cold laser equipment and spinal manipulation techniques to handle pain from any area on your body.

Depending on your pain, our chiropractors will offer wellness care or pain relief/injury rehabilitation.

Wellness care involves having one of our chiropractors work with you to identify and lessen what stress in your life has led to body tension. Typically, there are three such stresses: physical (e.g., wear and tear that can lead to arthritis), chemical (e.g., dieting choices), and emotional (e.g., problems at home or work). Our chiropractors can help you decrease the tension they create to relieve you and your body of stress and to help improve your body’s health and functioning.

Pain relief/injury rehabilitation involves helping you find relief from the following issues:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritis
  • Upper limb injuries
  • Lower limb injuries
  • WSIB injuries
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Sports injuries
  • Other musculoskeletal crises

What to Expect

During your initial visit, one of our chiropractors will note down information about your history and give you a physical (i.e., orthopaedic testing). Once they’ve gathered enough information about your personal background and health, the chiropractor can diagnose you and create a plan of care that can consist of soft tissue work, ice/heat, electrical modalities, acupuncture, stretching, strengthening, joint mobilization or manipulation, education for posture, diet, exercise, and more.

For this initial visit, Health Centre of Milton recommends that you wear something comfortable that allows access to your injured areas because one of our physiotherapists will start working on your treatment right away. Before that happens, the physiotherapist will note your medical history and physical health. Then, they will assess your range of motion, strength, posture, and functional movement to see what your specific issue is and how best to treat it.

Once all assessments have been completed, the physiotherapist will work closely with other health professionals to create a personalized treatment plan for you.

Registered Massage Therapy

To relieve muscle tension, you might want to consider Health Centre of Milton’s massage therapy. As part of a healthy rest, diet, and exercise routine, massage therapy can greatly improve your health and vitality.

What to Expect

When you visit us for a typical massage therapy session, one of our registered massage therapists will use hands-on massage techniques to relieve you from any muscle tension and to trigger points, which are also called knots. They may also use a thermaphore (i.e., a heating pad) to further relax your muscles.

Other treatment that you may receive as part of your session includes manual lymphatic drainage, deeper tissue massage, lighter or faster techniques to create a flushing effect on loosened tissue, and a hot stone massage for more warmth and comfort.

Naturopathic Medicine

If traditional medicine has not been working for you lately, naturopathic medicine might! Naturopathic medicine focuses on five core modalities, and each modality has its own set of principles. These modalities combine with each other and other conventional methods to help diagnose and treat your condition.

Please note that any treatment created through naturopathic medicine is tailored to your needs and preferences, so you can get a different combination of modalities and conventional methods.

Some of our available modalities include:

  • Holistic nutrition
  • Homeopathy/homeopathic medicine
  • Herbal supplements
  • Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture
  • Physical medicine

What to Expect

During the initial naturopathic medicine appointment, you will need to fill out the following forms for any adults and children attending, which can be downloaded from this page.

Naturopathic Patient Form

You can expect to take about 15 minutes filling out all the necessary information for both forms.

As part of your initial assessment, it is best to supply recent copies of your blood work from your medical doctor as that greatly helps the naturopathic doctor determine your current health. The doctor will also spend around one to one-and-a-half hours obtaining medical history on your physical, mental, and emotional health. After which, you will be given a complaint-oriented physical examination.

Your second visit will last about 45 minutes, but it will still include a full physical examination. Afterwards, the naturopathic doctor will provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan that you can take home. This plan will also determine how often and how long you are expected to meet up with the naturopathic doctor.

Acupuncture Treatments

Known by many as an effective and natural treatment for a number of conditions, acupuncture may be just what you need for your pain relief. It is an ancient form of Chinese medicine, which has been relied upon by others to this day.

It involves inserting specially designed needles into specific areas of the body. These needles are very fine so that they are flexible and go through the tissue without any bleeding or damage. Once they hit specific spots on your body, they will stimulate your body for pain relief.

What to Expect

At Health Centre of Milton, we have four acupuncturists you could see for treatment.

If you would like acupuncture to be added to your therapy for a musculoskeletal issue, such as back pain, sciatica, headaches, TMJ disorders, or sport injury rehabilitation, we can schedule you in with a physiotherapist or chiropractor for assessment and treatment.

If you have any of the following health issues, we will schedule you in with one of our naturopathic doctors who will assess you and recommend holistic treatment options that might include acupuncture:

  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • High blood pressure
  • Conception difficulties
  • Childbirth difficulties
  • Lactation difficulties
  • Digestion problems
  • Sleep problems

To get a more traditional treatment for your systemic or musculoskeletal issues, you can be scheduled with our traditional Chinese medicine acupuncturist. This may involve acupuncture treatments mixed with diet recommendations and tuina massage and cupping.

Pregnancy and Paediatrics

Pregnancy Care

If you’re pregnant, you should know that many women go through neuromuscular and biomechanical changes, which can sometimes come with negative side effects. To help you handle any pelvic and spinal sprains and strains, spine alterations, pelvic biomechanical alterations, potential uterus constraints, Health Centre of Milton provides helpful treatments from chiropractors and registered massage therapists.

What to Expect

Our chiropractors and registered massage therapists recommend regular chiropractic care and pregnancy massages as part of your regular pre-, peri-, and post-natal care. This can keep you feeling good and able to cope with the stress of pregnancy.

If you or one of our professionals notes that your uterus may be constrained from tense muscles and ligaments, Health Centre of Milton recommends the Webster technique. Two of our chiropractors, Dr. Dan and Dr. Sarah, are certified to handle this technique. It involves adjusting your body in a way that reduces any interference to your nervous system and encourages biomechanical balance for your pelvic structures, muscles, and ligaments. This has been known to lessen the constraint of the uterus to allow the baby to get into the best position for birth. It can even at times help return a baby to normal vertex position for expectant mothers presenting breech.

Please note that in your program of care, you can get a pregnancy massage referral from our registered massage therapists or an acupuncture referral from our naturopathic doctors.

Paediatric Care

Even when we’re young, we can experience pain from the many stresses our spine usually handles. Your child may not outright reveal this issue, though. Instead, they may express irritability, a depressed immune system, excessive crying, headaches, local discomfort, and chronic infections.

At Health Centre of Milton, we can help you find a way to ease your child’s spinal pain.

What to Expect

Unlike adults, your child will need a gentler paediatric treatment. Our chiropractors, Dr. Dan, Dr. Sarah, and Dr. Rebecca, have extensive experience in paediatrics, so they know how to use gentle and safe techniques to help treat your child.

If you would like to know more about chiropractic care and pregnancy massages or want paediatric chiropractic care, we invite you to call us to book a complimentary chiropractic consultation today.

Motor Vehicle Accident

Have you recently been in a motor vehicle accident? Health Centre of Milton can help you rehabilitate your spine, nerves, and muscles from the incident with chiropractic treatment or physiotherapy.

What to Expect

Typically, you are entitled to rehabilitation care after experiencing a motor vehicle accident. Either our chiropractor or physiotherapist will be able to start that care. They will provide you with a thorough examination, a diagnosis or clinical impression, and present treatment choices. During this visit, you will be asked for your automobile insurance and claim number.

Work-Related Injuries (WSIB)

If you’ve been injured at work, don’t hesitate to let your employer know so they can report your claim before booking an appointment with Health Centre of Milton. That way, you can make sure your treatment is covered through WSIB.

Please note that we are unable to treat you if you have a WSIB that has pending or disputed claim numbers.

What to Expect

Whether you’ve experienced back pain, weak core musculature, lumbar spine joint dysfunction, muscular imbalance, spinal ligament sprains and strains, nerve irritations, disc bulges, or herniations from your accident, our team of professionals are willing to work with you to find the best treatment.

Administrative Fees

Please note that if you need print materials for your treatment, there will be the following administrative fees:

  • Functional Abilities/Disability Forms

  • Photocopying the First 20 Pages
